クラブ・カルチャーにおいて、DJはひと晩にわたって音楽でその場をコントロールする。それは単なる選曲からそれはダンス・ミュージックを通じた、文字通りのアートフォームとして結実していった。いつしかそれはシンガーやバンドの演奏とならぶ表現として、クラブを飛び出し、フェスへの出演、さらにはミックスCDという「作品」にもなった。
現在、クラブを離れスマートフォンやPCでDJミックスを楽しむにはMixcloudやSoundCloudで世界中の名演が、簡単に、無料で楽しむことはできる。しかし90年代から2000年代前半までミックスCDの文化がDJカルチャー、さらに音楽シーンにおいてひとつの意味を持っていた。特にオフィシャル・リリースされたCDには、さまざまな制約──なによりも74分というCDの収録時間の制約があった。しかし、そのなかでいかに選曲で物語を作り、自己の表現とするのか、それはアーティストの表現となった。ある意味でシンガーやバンドの「ライヴ」アルバムと同様、音楽作品となったのだ。それは国や時間を飛び越えて、現場以外の体験としてDJカルチャーを支えた。
もちろんひと晩をコントロールするDJもすばらしいが、ミックスCDのようにライヴのように楽しむDJプレイもまたその表現の豊かさを証明するものではないだろうか。それは時間帯も一緒で、深夜に限らす学校や会社帰りに DJ を浴びるという楽しみがあってもいいはずだ。本企画はまさに、そうしたひと晩のクラブ体験から飛び出し、DJという表現を楽しむそんな企画である。
その記念すべき第一弾として登場するのは、テクノゴッドとして世界中から敬愛されるレジェンド、Ken Ishii。本企画のために特別に組み上げた スペシャル・ライブDJセット（74分） を披露する。世界のクラブやフェスを彩り続ける Ken Ishii の真髄に触れられる、またとないチャンス。見逃し厳禁。

In club culture, a DJ controls the space through music over the course of an entire night. What began as mere track selection gradually evolved into a literal art form expressed through dance music. In time, this form of expression came to stand alongside singers and bands, breaking free from the club environment to appear at festivals, and ultimately taking shape as a “work” in the form of mix CDs.
Today, even away from the club, DJ mixes can be easily and freely enjoyed on smartphones or PCs via platforms such as Mixcloud and SoundCloud, where outstanding performances from around the world are readily available. However, from the 1990s through the early 2000s, mix CD culture held a distinct and meaningful place within DJ culture and the wider music scene. Officially released CDs, in particular, were bound by various constraints—most notably the 74-minute time limit of the CD format. Within these limitations, the challenge of how to construct a narrative through track selection and turn it into a personal expression became an essential part of the artist’s craft.
